The backlit keyboard is an option on some models in this series.

If your computer has a backlit keyboard,

Go to Pages 10-11
- Turns the keyboard backlight off or on.
- On select products, you can adjust the brightness of the keyboard backlight. Press the key repeatedly to adjust the brightness from high (when you first start up the computer), to low, to off.
- After you adjust the keyboard backlight setting, the backlight will revert to your previous setting each time you turn on the computer.
- The keyboard backlight will turn off after 30 seconds of inactivity.
- To turn the keyboard backlight back on, press any key or tap the touchpad (select products only).
To conserve battery power, turn off this feature.

If the computer does not have a backlit keyboard, you cannot switch on the keyboard light.
If the computer has a backlit keyboard, see this Tech Takes Article on the subject:
How to Turn Keyboard Lighting On / Off
If the computer does have a backlit keyboard - try updating your HP software and drivers and perhaps running Windows Update. Reminder: If you are going to Update the BIOS, do that first and run the update separately from other updates.

Yes, if your computer is in Warranty,
If you replace the keyboard and break anything, you could (would likely) invalidate your Warranty.
