Hi @Anas_BA,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your HP 15-fc0000 series laptop mute and mic LED indicators stopped working after a BIOS update.

For your HP 15-fc0000, the loss of the red LED mute indicators after a BIOS update is usually caused by a communication break between the updated BIOS and the operating system's audio or hotkey drivers. Even if you have updated the BIOS further, the initial "handshake" between the hardware and the software often remains broken until reset manually.

1. Reset BIOS to Default Settings

Since the issue started with a BIOS update, resetting to factory defaults is the most effective first step to re-enable hardware-level LED triggers.

  • Shut down your laptop completely.
  • Press the Power button and immediately tap the F10 key repeatedly until the BIOS setup menu appears.
  • Once inside, press F9 to "Load Setup Defaults."
  • Select "Yes," then press F10 to "Save and Exit."
  • Your laptop will restart; check if the mute buttons now trigger the LEDs.

2. Reinstall HP System Event Utility & OSD

On HP laptops, the "HP System Event Utility" (sometimes called HP OSD) often controls the visual feedback for function keys, including the mute LEDs.

  • Go to the HP Support & Drivers page.
  • Enter your model (15-fc0000) and select your operating system.
  • Look under the Software-Solutions category for HP System Event Utility.
  • Download and install it, then restart your computer.

3. Refresh Audio Drivers in Device Manager

The mute LED is directly tied to the audio controller. If the driver is "stuck," it won't send the signal to the keyboard to turn on the light.

  • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand sound, video, and game controllers.
  • Right-click your audio device (likely Realtek High Definition Audio) and select Uninstall device.
    • Note: Do NOT check "Delete the driver software for this device" yet.
  • Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot, which often fixes the LED link.

4. Perform a Hard Power Reset

If the hardware controller is in an error state, a power drain can reset the internal keyboard/LED circuitry.

  • Shut down the laptop and unplug the power adapter.
  • Disconnect all external devices (USB, etc.).
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15–30 seconds.
  • Plug the power back in and turn the laptop on normally.

If these steps do not restore the lights, you can use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool (accessed by tapping F2 at startup) to run a component test on the keyboard to confirm if it is a physical hardware failure or purely software-related.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
