pavilion x360 convertible

I have an HP Pavilion x360 convertible laptop and recently had to format my hard drive and reinstall windows 10, everything worked fine until i installed the sensor driver, after that, my keyboard and touchpad stopped working. I've tried multiple version of the driver, but they all cause the same problem.

In device manager I2C Hid device shows an error:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A request for the HID descriptor failed.
and touchscreen is not working.
I've been trying multiple versions of windows 10 for several days and i always have the same issue
can you please help me

Hi @Techsjll,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue you're experiencing with your HP Pavilion x360 convertible laptop may be related to conflicts or incompatibilities with the I2C HID driver, which controls input devices like the touchpad and touchscreen. Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve the problem.

Uninstall the Problematic Driver

  • Device Manager:
    1. Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
    2. Locate I2C HID Device under Human Interface Devices.
    3. Right-click the I2C HID Device and select Uninstall device.
    4. Check the box for Delete the driver software for this device and click Uninstall.
    5. Restart your laptop.

Install the Correct Driver Version

  • HP Support Website:
    1. Visit the HP Support website and search for drivers for your specific HP Pavilion x360 model.
    2. Download the I2C HID Device driver from HP, ensuring it's compatible with Windows 10 and your device model.
    3. Install the downloaded driver and restart your laptop.

Update Windows and Drivers

  • Windows Update:
    1. Ensure your Windows 10 installation is fully updated. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
  • Driver Updates:
    1. Use HP Support Assistant (if installed) to check for and install any recommended driver updates, particularly for the chipset and input devices.

Reset BIOS to Default Settings

  • Accessing BIOS:
    1. Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup.
    2. In the BIOS, look for an option to Restore Defaults or Load Setup Defaults.
    3. Save and exit the BIOS.

Disable Fast Startup

  • Control Panel:
    1. Open Control Panel > Power Options.
    2. Click on Choose what the power buttons do on the left-hand side.
    3. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    4. Scroll down and uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
    5. Save changes and restart your laptop.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • HP Hardware Diagnostics:
    1. Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to perform a thorough check on your hardware, especially the keyboard, touchpad, and touchscreen.
    2. To run these diagnostics, restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly during startup to enter the diagnostics tool.

Perform a Clean Install of Windows 10

  • If all else fails, consider performing a clean installation of Windows 10, ensuring no residual drivers or settings conflict with the new setup.
    1. Download the latest Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft's website.
    2. Create a bootable USB drive and reinstall Windows, then install drivers directly from HP's website.

Notes:

  • Code 10 Error: This generally indicates a driver or hardware conflict. Ensuring you have the correct, updated drivers is key.
  • Touchscreen: If the touchscreen continues to fail, it may be related to the I2C HID issue or a separate driver conflict. Ensuring all drivers are correctly installed should resolve this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Good morning, thank you for the tips you've given me. I wanted to let you know that I've always installed Windows by formatting the hard drive first. However, every time I install the drivers, the keyboard and touchpad stop working. I have created restore points before installing the drivers, but when I restore to one of these points, Windows startup gets corrupted, and I have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows.
