Thank you for contacting the HP Support Community.
If your HP EliteBook 840 G6 Notebook PC is not charging despite being plugged in, and the battery level is decreasing, here are some steps you can follow to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:
-
Check Charger and Port:
- Ensure that the power adapter and cable are properly connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
- Try using a different power outlet.
- Inspect the charging port and cable for any visible damage.
-
Examine the Battery Health:
- Use the HP Battery Health Manager, which is a BIOS-level setting, to check the health of your laptop battery. This tool can provide insights into whether the battery needs calibration or replacement.
-
Battery Health Manager Settings:
- For HP business notebooks, it's recommended to enable settings like "Let HP Manage My Battery Health" to optimize charging and discharging cycles and improve battery lifespan. This can be adjusted within the BIOS settings.
-
Update Drivers and BIOS:
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page to make sure your notebook's drivers, especially the power management drivers and BIOS, are up-to-date.
-
Run HP Diagnostics:
- Restart your computer and press the "F2" key repeatedly at startup to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run a battery test to determine if there's a hardware issue.
-
Battery Calibration:
- Discharge the battery completely until the device shuts down, then recharge to 100% without interruption. This process can help recalibrate the battery sensor.
-
Windows Power Options:
- Check the power plan settings in the Windows Control Panel. Ensure that there are no settings that might be impacting the charging mechanism.
Let us know how it goes after following these steps—we’ll be glad to help if the issue persists.
