@tohanjr, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding USB Connection Issues on HP Laptops!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your USB device is not recognized by your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Power Check

  • Ensure any USB device that operates on battery power has functional batteries properly seated.
  • If the device operates on external power, ensure all power connections are secure and the power cord is connected to a power source.

2. Test the USB Connection

  • Disconnect all USB devices from the laptop except for a USB mouse and keyboard (if in use).
  • Try connecting the problematic USB device to one of the USB ports directly on the computer. For desktop computers, use the USB ports on the back of the computer. For notebook computers, use a USB port on the notebook, not a USB hub.

3. Install Manufacturer Software

  • If your USB device came with software that was not previously installed, install the software following the manufacturer's instructions.

4. Use a Windows Troubleshooter

  • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select the relevant troubleshooter for your issue and run it, following the on-screen instructions.

5. Check for Windows Updates

  • Run Windows Update to check for any operating system updates required for your computer. Ensure you opt in on all recommended and optional driver updates.

6. Device Manager Actions

  • Open Device Manager by searching for it in the Windows search bar.
  • If the device is listed as Unknown Device, perform the following steps:
    1. Disconnect the device.
    2. Right-click on Unknown Device and select Uninstall.
    3. Check the box to delete the driver software if prompted.
    4. Restart the computer.
    5. Reinstall the device using manufacturer instructions.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
