@brycestyn, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Windows Update Issues on HP Laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It seems like your HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 is stuck during the update process and eventually reverts changes, which can certainly be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
Check for Corrupted Files:
- Run the Windows System File Checker tool. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow. This command checks for corrupted system files and attempts to fix them.
Use Windows Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Windows Update. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter to detect and possibly fix any issues related to updates.
Clear Update Cache:
- Sometimes clearing the Windows Update cache can help. Open Command Prompt as administrator and type the following commands one-by-one:
- net stop wuauserv
- net stop cryptSvc
- net stop bits
- net stop msiserver
- Next, type ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old to rename the update folder.
- Finally, restart the services with the following commands:
- net start wuauserv
- net start cryptSvc
- net start bits
- net start msiserver
Disable Third-party Antivirus:
- Sometimes, third-party antivirus software can interfere with updates. Try disabling it temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.
Ensure Enough Disk Space:
- Make sure your laptop has enough free disk space for updates, as low disk space can sometimes cause update failures.
Restart in Safe Mode:
- Boot your laptop in Safe Mode and try performing the update. Safe Mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services to determine if the issue is related to a background process.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
