Hi:

If your notebook came from HP with W8 or newer, the product key is in the BIOS.

You can use the free utility that I zipped up and attached below, that will show you the Windows OEM product key and the version of Windows the key is good for.

Without the model number and much more info, that is problematic to answer.  Depending on the model number, most newer models have the product key for Windows built into the BIOS/motherboard.  Also depending on the Windows product that has been installed, it might not self activate  if you have a retail version installed.  Most models come with Windows 10 Home from the factory.  What version is it that is being not activated and what source?

Sorry @Paul_Tikkanen   replying at the same time.

You're very welcome.

Do you know what operating system originally came with your notebook?

Did you upgrade it to Windows 10?

Please post the full model number or product number of your notebook.

Use this guide to find that information...please do not post the serial number.

Hi:

I can't find any specs on that model, but if it came with Windows, then it has Windows 8.1 Single Language.

You can download the W8.1 ISO file from the link below.   Select the 64 bit Single Language ISO file.

Download Windows 8.1 Disc Image (ISO File) (microsoft.com)

Is windows activation provided by downloading?

OK, so if you had previously upgrade the PC to W10, you can make bootable installation media using the Media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 should install and activate after you are connected to the internet.
