HP OmniBook X Flip 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop Next Gen AI PC 14-fm0000 (AK4Z1AV)

Hi i just recently got this laptop and saw it had this programble key as one of its many fetures. the first main issuie is that the app that is ment to allow you to reprograme it wasent preinstalled but i was able to find it but then i got hit with more problems. 1. when trying to make it boot a aplication, it says "Could not fetch application list. Please make sure hotkey service is running" first it is running i made sure i went though a bunch of ways that were meant to "fix it" but the error continues. 2. It doesn't save anything i put into it like if i say open this file when i close and reopen the app that "request?" is gone. 3. And the main issue is it just doesn't work

Hi @confused-what

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand you are experiencing issues with the HP Programmable Key application. The errors you described  such as “Could not fetch application list. Please make sure hotkey service is running”, settings not saving, and the app failing to launch assigned actions  indicate that the supporting drivers and services required for this feature are either missing or not functioning correctly.

This error typically appears when the HP Hotkey Support  is missing or corrupted. These components are essential for enabling your function keys (like brightness, volume, etc.) and other HP-specific features.

Reinstall HP Support Assistant

This tool helps manage updates and drivers, including the Application Enabling Services.

  • Uninstall the current HP Support Assistant:
  • Right-click the Start Menu → Apps & Features
  • Scroll to HP Support Assistant → Click Uninstall
  • Choose No when asked to keep preferences
  • Download and reinstall HP Support Assistant:  HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
  • Restart your PC and check if the error disappears.

Install HP Hotkey Support Driver

This driver is crucial for enabling the hotkeys and resolving the framework error.

  • Visit the official HP driver page for your laptop:  support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
  • Select Windows 11 as your OS, then look under Software-Solutions or Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices.
  • Download and install HP Hotkey Support or HP Software Framework.
  • Restart your laptop.

Check Services Are Running

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Look for HP Hotkey UWP Service or HP Application Enabling Service.
  • Right-click → Properties → Set Startup type to Automatic → Click Start if not running.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi,

I wanna hook in on this conversation because I have the same issue on a brand new HP Flip 14 Ultra.

PC 14-fh0000 (9F2C2AV)

First, I've been fighting with this for a while, I am quite tech savy. We can argue about the state of Windows or the **bleep**LOAD of unclear HP utilities that all are half baked.

I tried this one 3 installations, each on their of SSD.

The original installed with the laptop,
A clean Windows ISO with just driver install from the Support page and windows update

A ISO created by a HP recovery tool.

All of these installs fail to run the HP Reprogramable Hotkey. HP Hotkey UWP Service is never visisble in services.msc. Some SP packs do install "HP Hotkey Service" which looks similar, but by now I think it is for older devices.

WilliamSomethin_0-1787125139651.pngWilliamSomethin_0-1787125139651.png

(This for example happens when you try to select an application)

I also had the application crash on me consistently when trying to accept the **bleep** terms of use. "Please contact your administrator" is a **bleep** comment to have in an application for consumers.

The Microsoft Store HP Programable Hotkey application is BROKEN.

All my other hotkeys work fine, (playblack, screen brightness etc). The HP hotkey does nothing, holding it open more bloatware! Omen tools and another useless HP ultility.

What I want: a well documented fix for this. We need to know which services are necesary, and which drivers are required.

Trying to Google and look for Ai generated solutions as CASL installs, other SP packs that arent even for my device, should not be the way to solve this problem to consumers.

If you need help, I can test solutions for you. You guys probably have the laptop somewhere around there? Let us know if it works at HP office.

(Please fix)

Hi @confused-what

Thank you for responding.

I understand that the HP Hotkey Support service is running and your other keys are functioning correctly. Since you have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the driver and the app, the issue appears to be related to limited driver availability for your specific model. The HP support page may show fewer drivers depending on the product line, and in some cases the required package is not yet listed. This means the Programmable Key app cannot function fully until the correct backend driver is released. I will take this as a feedback to the relevant team so they can review the driver catalog for your model. In the meantime, please continue using HP Support Assistant to check for updates, as any new driver release will be delivered through that channel.

Have a good day.
