My HP-Laptop Envy17 cr0177ng has in its BIOS the function "Adaptive Battery Optimizer" activated und in HP PC Diagnostics UEFI this function is "Enabled/Activated". In the past, with previous HP-laptops, I tried to not charge the battery above 80% and to not drain it below 40% in order to prolong battery life. Does my former behaviour still make sense with my current laptop or can I leave electricity always plugged in, so that capacity is almost always at 100% and battery life is still not negatively impacted?

As long as you don't leave the notebook plugged into A/C power 24/7/365 with the battery in a constant 100% charge state, you should be fine.
See the link below for how to get the most life out of your notebook's battery:

Activated batteries have 3 parameters that optimize them:
battery temperature
battery state of charge
usage modes
Protection measures are then activated based on these 3 parameters, which regulates the battery charge and allows the battery to be used connected to the power supply for long periods of time.
