And how do I know if it's bad? My computer is saying there is an issue. But when I run the diagnostics, the battery part is cancelled. I've tried several times and it won't give me anything on the battery status. It is charging and seems to be working OK. I did have it off and it ran down and then then at startup, it started telling me there was an issue.

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
Your HP Notebook - 17-by0017cy (4VS69UA) uses a 3-cell, 41 Wh Li-ion, HP p/n: L11119-855 ("Assembly-battery 3C 41W 3.6A LI HT030") -HT03XL battery series.
Replacing your battery can be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIPhYTB7A1U, and a quality replacement battery can be found everywhere online such as this example: https://www.amazon.com/HT03XL-15-da0014dx-15-cs0053cl-15-dw0043dx-17-by1053dx/dp/B09X9QZDR4/ref=sr_1....
As to know or suspect if your battery is bad -besides age (number of times charged/discharged, etc.), signs are reduced battery power-on time, long(er) charging time and your laptop telling you there is a problem.
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,

Thanks for that. The utube video is terrible though. All the comments say the same. It doesn't start at the beginning of how to remove the optical drive or the back of the computer. People commenting say it's very difficult to get off. Why did HP make it so hard to change something that it's said doesn't last more then 4 years? My other laptops had a battery that was easy to get to and to change out.
I ran a test through the hp site and it says my battery is OK. But when I start up my computer it says there is a problem. As I said, I had it off the charger and it told me I was running low. I went to plug it in and it had shut off in the mean time. Since then it gives me this message at start up. But, it charges completely and so far I haven't noticed any issues with length of charge.
