If you are facing issues with the mousepad freezing and seeing help pop-ups with each click using a USB mouse on your HP EliteBook 840 G4 Notebook PC, along with needing to reinstall the touchscreen driver, please follow these instructions.

Step 1: Fix Mousepad Freezing Issue

  1. Check for Software Updates:
  2. Ensure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. You can do this by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and clicking on Check for updates.

  3. Touchpad Driver Update:

  4. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  5. Click on Additional Settings to open the Mouse Properties.
  6. Under the Hardware tab, select your touchpad device and click Properties.
  7. Go to the Driver tab and click on Update Driver.

  8. USB Mouse Settings:

  9. It could be useful to reset any settings related to your USB mouse. Sometimes defaults can help mitigate these issues.

  10. Run HP Support Assistant:

  11. Download and run the HP Support Assistant which can automatically find and install driver updates for your devices.

Step 2: Reinstall Touchscreen Driver

  1. Visit HP Support:
  2. Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.

  3. Select Your Device:

  4. Enter HP EliteBook 840 G4 and select your specific model from the list.

  5. Download Touchscreen Driver:

  6. Under Driver-Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices, find the touchscreen driver and download it.
  7. Install the driver following the on-screen instructions.

  8. Reboot Your System:

  9. After installing the drivers, reboot your system to ensure all changes take effect.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
