It sounds like your HP Spectre x360’s touchpad might have a hardware issue, but let’s try some troubleshooting steps to confirm whether it’s a sensor problem or a software-related issue.
Step 1: Check Touchpad Settings
- Open Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure the touchpad is enabled and sensitivity settings are correctly configured.
- Try adjusting the touchpad sensitivity to see if responsiveness improves.
Step 2: Update Touchpad Drivers
- Open Device Manager (Press Windows + X, then select Device Manager).
- Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on the Touchpad driver and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Step 3: Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop and unplug it from the power source.
- Hold down the Power button for 15 seconds.
- Restart the laptop and test the touchpad again.
Step 4: Run HP Diagnostics
- Visit the HP Support page and download the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool.
- Run a Touchpad Test to check for hardware issues.
Step 5: Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the touchpad for any visible cracks or irregularities.
- If the touchpad feels unresponsive or uneven, it may require professional repair.
