Hi @anthonysei,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the touchpad issue on your HP laptop after installing Windows 11, you can try the following steps.

Update the Driver via Device Manager

  1. Open Device Manager: Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager".
  2. Locate the Problematic Device: Find the I2C HID Device under Human Interface Devices or Other devices.
  3. Update Driver:
    • Right-click on the I2C HID Device and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
    • If Windows does not find an update, proceed to the next step.

Download the Latest Drivers from HP Support

  1. Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
  2. Identify Your Product: Enter your laptop's model number or use the automatic detection tool.
  3. Select Windows 11: Choose Windows 11 64-bit as the operating system.
  4. Download and Install Drivers: Look for touchpad or I2C HID drivers, download them, and install them.

Manually Install the Driver

  1. Download Drivers from Manufacturer: Sometimes the latest drivers might be available directly from the touchpad manufacturer's website (e.g., Synaptics or ELAN).
  2. Install Manually:
    • Unzip the downloaded driver files if they are in a compressed format.
    • Go back to Device Manager, right-click on the I2C HID Device, and select Update driver.
    • Choose Browse my computer for drivers and navigate to the location where you unzipped the drivers.

Enable Touchpad in Settings

  1. Open Settings: Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Devices: Go to Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
  3. Enable Touchpad: Ensure the touchpad is enabled and adjust any relevant settings.

Rollback to Previous Driver

  1. Device Manager: Right-click on the I2C HID Device in Device Manager.
  2. Properties: Select Properties, then go to the Driver tab.
  3. Rollback Driver: If the option is available, click Roll Back Driver to revert to the previous version.

BIOS Update

  1. Check for BIOS Update: Sometimes updating the BIOS can resolve hardware compatibility issues.
  2. Download and Install: Go to the HP support website, find your laptop model, and check for any available BIOS updates. Follow the instructions provided to update the BIOS.

Reset Windows (Optional)

If none of the above methods work, you might consider resetting Windows. This should be a last resort and ensure you back up important data before proceeding.

  1. Open Settings: Press Win + I.
  2. Navigate to Recovery: Go to System > Recovery.
  3. Reset this PC: Click on Reset PC and choose either to keep your files or remove everything.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
