i"m trying to get access to the backlit keyboard settings. a quick google search showed that it should be in the advanced setting tab in the BIOS but there isn't an advance setting tab there.

If you are referring to this article, I must let you know that it's generic and not specific to your model, that said, the options to timeout is not available on all HP laptops,
I'm afraid your device is one of those models that doesn't have this option, you can either turn it on or turn it off.
