Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, everyone!
I urgently need to roll back my laptop BIOS.

After upgrading to version f29 rev A, I'm having a series of problems... including problems synchronizing the time in Windows and a huge thermal throttling.

I'm sure it's related to this BIOS, because it was right after the update that I started having these problems.

I tried several ways to downgrade, but I was unsuccessful.

With great difficulty, I found the F14 BIOS version to download, but when I tried to roll back, I got a message that my BIOS version is more recent and it won't let me continue with the rollback.

I tried to create a recovery pen drive with the f14 bios and apply the restore by pressing "Win + B" when turning on the computer, but the laptop seems to reject the pen drive and simply restore to the last saved image, which doesn't solve the problem, since I applied the f29 update twice, to make sure that there wasn't a bug during the update.

I also tried creating a recovery pen drive and replacing the files in the "Currtent", "New" and "Previous" folders with the "08574.bin" and "08574.sig" files that I had from my previous BIOS, but that didn't work either.

I also tried booting the pen drive using the "Boot from EFI file" option and selecting the "HpBiosUpdate.efi" file, but in this case I get a message saying that there is a problem with the BIOS file.

I have already spent hours trying to solve this, and I would like to ask the HP team for support to solve this problem.

I would also like the FTP link to download the BIOS version prior to F29, since it is not available on the website.

I await your response!

Best regards,
Tyrone Hirt Stachera

Hi @Tyrone26, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Rolling back your BIOS will be tricky, but there are a few methods you can try:

Verify BIOS Rollback Option in BIOS Setup

  • Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
  • Look for an option related to BIOS Rollback or Allow BIOS Downgrade.
  • If available, enable it, save changes, and exit.

Force BIOS Recovery with USB (Win + B Method)

Since the usual method didn't work, try this:

  • Format your USB drive to FAT32.
  • Extract the F.14 BIOS files and place them in the root directory of the USB drive.
  • Disconnect all external peripherals.
  • Insert the USB drive into a USB 2.0 port if available.
  • Hold Win + B, then power on the laptop.
  • Keep holding until you hear beeps or see the BIOS recovery screen.

Manually Modify Platform.ini

Some HP BIOS update tools have a Platform.ini file that controls the update process.

  • Open the BIOS update folder you downloaded.
  • Locate Platform.ini and open it in Notepad.
  • Look for a section like this:
    [Bios_Version_Check]
    Flag=1
  • Change Flag=1 to Flag=0 and save the file.
  • Try running the BIOS update again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
