HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba001la
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I tried to access an HP portable hard drive that I have as a backup and have not used for a long time, I was unable to do so. A technician told me it was a driver update problem. HP's automatic software did not recognize the device when I entered the serial number. Specifically I need to know how to get the update driver for this device (HP personal media drive 80 GB).

Hi @jcmrCL,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are trying to download the drivers for your HP Pocket Media Drive 80GB External Hard Drive to connect with your HP Pavilion X360 - 14-Ba001la. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • Have you tried to connect the portable hard drive to any other PC and check?
  • Did you try connecting the portable hard drive to a different port on the PC?

Usually, these devices are plug and play and they do not need any software to run. (Plug and Play, sometimes, abbreviated PnP, is a catchy phrase used to describe devices that work with a computer system as soon as they are connected. The user does not have to manually install drivers for the device or even tell the computer that a new device has been added.)

However, you may go ahead and Update BIOS on your notebook PC once and then try to access the hard drive.

Try to update Windows as well ( select Start  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Update, and then select Check for updates. If updates are available, install them.)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
