I have an HP Victus laptop and an HP Trunderbolt dock with an audio module. The laptop display the image on two monitors via the docking station. There is a laptop power button on the dock. But this button only works if the laptop is in the open state. If the laptop is closed, the button does not turn it on. The laptop is configured not to turn off when the lid is closed.
Is it possible to launch the laptop via the dock with the lid closed?

Hi @PBul,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
Your HP Victus laptop and HP Thunderbolt Dock with Audio Module support external power-on via the dock’s power button, but this feature often depends on BIOS and hardware compatibility. Since your dock’s power button only works when the laptop lid is open, it suggests that Wake on Dock (AC) or Wake on Thunderbolt is not fully enabled for a closed-lid scenario.
Possible Solutions to Enable Power-On with Lid Closed
1. Enable "Wake on AC" or "Wake on Dock" in BIOS (if available)
- Enter BIOS:
- Restart your laptop and press F10 during boot to enter the BIOS setup.
- Look for Power Management settings:
- Check if there is a setting like "Wake on AC" or "Wake on Dock" and enable it.
- Also check "Wake on Thunderbolt" and enable it if available.
- Save & Exit:
- Save changes and restart your laptop.
2. Ensure BIOS and Thunderbolt Firmware Are Updated
- Go to HP Support Assistant or the HP Drivers & Software page for your Victus model.
- Install the latest BIOS update and Thunderbolt firmware update.
3. Check Windows Power Settings
- Open Control Panel → Power Options.
- Click Choose what closing the lid does.
- Ensure "Do nothing" is selected for both "Plugged in" and "On battery".
4. Try Using a Different Thunderbolt Port
- Some Thunderbolt docks require a specific USB-C or Thunderbolt port for full wake-on-power functionality.
5. Use an External Keyboard with Wake Function
- Some external keyboards (especially wired ones) allow waking the laptop by pressing a key.
- Enable "Allow this device to wake the computer" under Device Manager > Keyboard > Power Management tab.
6. Test with the Lid Slightly Open
- Some HP laptops require the lid to be slightly open to detect external power button signals.
Conclusion
If your BIOS supports Wake on Dock or Wake on AC, enabling these settings should allow you to power on the laptop via the dock while the lid is closed. If the option is missing, it may not be supported on your HP Victus model

Спасибо за ваш ответ.
Включение ноутбука от кнопки на док-станции работает только в режиме сна? В режиме гибернации? Если ноутбук ранее был выключен из-за «завершения работы», сможете ли док-станцию его включить?
Thanks for your reply.
Does turning on the laptop from the button on the dock only work in sleep mode? For hibernation mode?
If the laptop was previously turned off via shutdown, will the dock be able to turn it on?

Hi @PBul,
It depends on the specific HP laptop and docking station model, but generally:
- Sleep Mode → Most HP docks with a power button can wake the laptop from sleep.
- Hibernation Mode → Some docks may wake the laptop from hibernation, but not all.
- Shutdown (Powered Off) → In most cases, docking stations cannot turn on an HP laptop that was fully shut down. You’ll need to press the laptop’s power button directly.
Some business-class HP docks (like Thunderbolt or USB-C docks) may have BIOS settings that allow power-on from a dock, but this is not common for consumer models. You can check your BIOS for an option like "Wake on Dock" or "Power on AC" to see if it can be enabled.
