Occasionally (once every 1-2 weeks) when unplugging the HDMI cable the laptop appears to go to sleep.
- All sleep/hibernate options are disabled
- The laptop is plugged in to power at the time.
- When this occurs the laptop is closed with the external monitor mirroring the desktop.
- The only way to get it back is to hold the power button.
This has been occurring just about since I got the laptop in April of 2021. The first few times it happened I thought it was a fluke but it seems to occur more often now. All Windows updates have been applied. The only thing I haven't specifically updated is the BIOS. This is getting extremely annoying since it seems to happen right before a meeting is about to start, etc. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

It could most likely be a hardware issue. I feel the HDMI port may be faulty hence it is causing the shutdowns. Have you tried leaving the HDMI cable unplugged and seeing if the PC will still shut down? If after you tried this and you are still facing challenges then you can use your warranty if it is still valid.

Thanks. I was, unfortunately, thinking along similar lines since the USB ports seem to be somewhat flaky too (headset sometimes only partially works, etc). (This is actually my wife's laptop so I'm not always around when the issues occur to do any proper diagnostics.)
The laptop seems fine standalone. I suspect I'll have to spend a weekend trying different things like disconnecting HDMI with the laptop open versus closed, properly documenting the "recovery" procedure, etc. Sad to say the warranty expired last month.
Thanks for the input.
