does HP make LCD screens that are compatible with multiple laptops? or can i only buy the exact same  laptop model, if thats the route i go, to swap out the LCD?

Enter your PC's serial number in the search box at the link below and it should give you the part number for the LCD display panel you need.

HP doesn't have a service manual for the 17-by4xxx model series, so hopefully the one for the older 17-by1xxx model series will be of help for you to take the notebook apart to replace the screen.

the part # is L22564-001

but it is not available from HP

and HP does a nightmarish job of connecting you to vendors who MIGHT have the part in stock

why on earth wouldnt they have a service manual for the model they created!??

Yes, I find it frustrating that HP does not seem to sell parts for new notebooks like yours.

I can see something 5 or 10 years old but not just a year or two.

Don't get me started on the manuals...

You're going to have to let Google do the legwork for you as far as hunting down a display panel.

I see several for sale on eBay when I search by the part number you posted.
