Hi @Virus5,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP PC shows only a blinking cursor (underscore) on a black screen, it typically indicates a boot issue. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve it:
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect all external devices (USBs, printers, etc.).
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and try turning it on again.
2. Check BIOS Boot Order
- Turn on the PC and immediately press Esc repeatedly (once every second) until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
- Go to System Configuration > Boot Options.
- Ensure the internal hard drive is listed first in the boot order.
- Save and exit (usually F10 again).
3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Turn on the PC and press Esc, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Run the System Tests > Quick Test or Hard Drive Test to check for hardware issues.
4. Try Booting into Recovery Mode
- Turn on the PC and press F11 repeatedly to access Windows Recovery Environment.
- If successful, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
