I have the Exact same problem as another guy but couldn't find the solution there. The problem is: A vertical strip of the screen about a quarter-inch wide is not responding to my stylus. The stylus works just fine everywhere else, but anything written or drawn that use that vertical strip comes out jumbled. By hovering the pen just slightly over the screen I can see the screen responding everywhere else, but not along that vertical strip.

It sounds like a digitizer issue affecting a specific part of your touchscreen. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
Basic Checks
- Restart Your Laptop: A simple restart can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.
- Try a Different Stylus: If possible, use another compatible stylus to check if the issue persists.
Update & Reinstall Drivers
Update Pen & Touch Drivers:
- Right-click Start > Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Locate HID-compliant touch screen and HID-compliant pen.
- Right-click each one > Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
Reinstall the Touchscreen Driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click HID-compliant touch screen > Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop; Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
Update Graphics Driver:
- Go to Device Manager > Display adapters.
- Right-click your graphics card (Intel or AMD) > Update driver.
Run HP Diagnostics
- Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
- Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Select Component Tests > Touchscreen Test and follow the instructions.
