Pavilion dv7-4270us
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

is THIS the correct board to request assistance with graphics issues? ?

If NOT, PLEASE stroll on over to "Hardware Discussion Board" and

search out the stream of 'cribguru', 'REO51ST' or me 'TexasIndian'

if YES, then please advise...original OS W7, seamless download free W10

and the ONLY issue has been the annoying pop-up stating the following:

"No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly.

Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware."

More specific laptop identifying specifications listed in my "Hardware Board" post.

Any/all guidance is welcome; feel free to use 20th century lingo, even stick figures

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/amdcleanuputility.exe

https://www2.ati.com/drivers/amd-catalyst-15.7.1-win10-64bit.exe

2.Disconnect internet(important) else windows will try to download its own drivers.

3.Run cleanup utility this will remove all existing AMD drivers.

4.Reboot the system and install the newly downloaded drivers.

5.Reboot the system and check if graphics are working fine

Note:- Donot connect to internet until the process is complete.

Thanks so much...will try tomorrow afternoon/early evening and let you know if successful

(just a few innocuous questions first...keeping in mind I'm a dimwitted 20th century grandfather)

* I go to each site/link WHILE online and download clean-up utility & new(er) driver?

* Then I disconnect internet (go into Settings & 'turn off' Wireless Network Connection?)

* Then  retrieve each of the two new downloads (utility first, then new(er) AMD driver)?

* IF graphics work fine (meaning what? I do or do not have picture?) then reconnect internet??

sound about right?   feel free to use the 'what a dumbass' venacular   :smileyembarrassed:

Sorry for the late response.

The steps you mentioned are perfect.

Graphics work fine means that the error you facing doesnot show up.

"No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly.

Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware."

btw:  is your dv7-4270us also pushing 4gb memory or 8gb??

Mine is only 4gb (2 x 2gb)...HP says the MAX supported is 8gb.

So I'm going to 'pull' the two 2gb memory cards & replace with 2 new 4gb cards.

Also, totally gave up on idea to replace the dinky hard drive with the low-priced

SSD's offered at Crucial....just reading their installation instructions!!   WOW!!!

Waaaaay beyond my skillset or patience level....haven't a clue what 2/3's of the

instructions literally mean?!?

If interested, will keep you informed on how/if doubling the memory from 2x2gb

to 2x4gb speeds it up.  (have you upgraded your laptop to Windows 10?  -64 bit?)

HP Recommended

I don't own a dv7, but upgrading to SSD is worth it. You notice every thing become faster(like bootup, copying, loading time of softwares). Upgrading RAM will help with applications requiring lots of RAM(like games).

Installing RAM is easy but in SSD you will have to install windows first.

cribguru    ....who does have the exact same laptop as me
