I have a Philips monitor connected to my HP laptop. The camera on the laptop works fine but I cannot get the camera on the monitor to work. The light comes on showing its on, but the preview shows a black. How do I get the monitor camera to work?

Hi @JJG11,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your Philips monitor’s built-in camera is showing a black preview but the camera light is on, it may be related to the settings, drivers, or connection issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the issue.
Check Camera Selection
- On Windows:
- Open the camera app by searching "Camera" in the Start Menu.
- If your laptop camera is on by default, switch to the monitor's camera. Look for the camera switch icon (a camera symbol with arrows) on the top left of the Camera app.
- If the external camera shows black, proceed to the next steps.
Check Privacy Settings
- Ensure that your monitor's camera is allowed to be used by apps.
- Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
- Check that Camera access is turned on.
- Scroll down and ensure apps like Zoom, Teams, or other relevant programs have permission to use the camera.
Update Camera Drivers
- Check if your Philips monitor camera requires a specific driver.
- Device Manager: Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras or Imaging devices.
- Look for your monitor's camera, right-click on it, and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If no driver is listed for your monitor's camera, visit the Philips website to find drivers for your specific model.
Try Different USB Port (If Applicable)
- If your Philips monitor is connected via a USB hub or dock, connect it directly to your laptop's USB port to rule out connection issues.
Check Monitor Settings
- Some monitors allow adjusting the camera settings via the on-screen display (OSD) menu.
- Check the monitor's manual to see if the camera can be enabled or configured through the OSD.
Restart Laptop & Monitor
- Power off both the monitor and laptop, then turn them on again to reset connections.
Test the Camera in Other Applications
- Try using the camera in different applications like Zoom, Skype, or a browser-based video call to ensure it's not a software-specific issue.
Update BIOS and Firmware
- For HP laptops, ensure your BIOS is updated. Sometimes BIOS updates improve peripheral compatibility.
If none of these solutions work, your monitor camera might be defective, and you can try testing it on another system to verify.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
