Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After signing with with Windows Hello, the two small redlights on either side of the camera stay on, and I assume the camera stays on as well.

The only way to stop it is to go to Settings and set up Windows Hello again.

Initially it happened just every once in a while.  But in the past week, it's been happening with increasing frequency (2-3 times per day)

There are plenty of resources to help when the camera won't turn on, but I haven't been able to find anything about what to do if the camera won't turn off.

Hi @RD-76

Welcome to the HP Forums!

It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the webcam is not turning off after logging in to the computer using windows hello.

Don’t worry, I’d love to help!

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

When was the last time the webcam was working fine?

Is the webcam working with other applications? (Skype or Youcam)

Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to uninstall the webcam drivers from device manager and reinstall it and check.

Here is how it is done.

  • 1.Open Device Manager.
  • 2.Double-click the type of device that you want to uninstall.
  • 3.Right-click the specific device you want, and then click Uninstall. You can also double-click the device, and then on the Driver tab, click Uninstall.
  • 4.In the Confirm Device Removal page, select Delete the driver software for this device if you also want to remove the device driver package from the driver store.
  • 5.Click OK to complete the uninstall process.
  • 6.Restart the computer and check.

If the issue persists, I recommend you to update the bios from the below link and check.

Hi,

The camera works ok most of the time.  It just seems to stay on after signing in on Windows Hello, from time to time.  It's not consistent, but it's happening with greater frequency.

I don't use it with Skype or any other apps.

I tried updating the driver, but that's about it.  There aren't many troubleshooting suggestions for this issue.

In the meantime, I deleted and reinstalled the driver, so I'll see if the problem continues.

Thanks

Thanks again for the response.

I've updated the BIOS, and will see if that fixes it.

The HP Support Assistant constantly lists 3 recommended updates to install, but installation fails every time I attempt it (for all 3).

When I went to the Software and Driver Download website, I was surprised to see a number of other downloads available which are not listed in the Support Assistant.  I will download those as well, and see if it has any effect on the ability to download the updates recommended by the Support Assistant.

Thanks again.

Once all updates are installed, this issue should be fixed, if not, I recommend you run a hardware test on the webcam & an extensive system test: Click here for steps.

I have the same issue and at first, I put my laptop to sleep and logged in again.  But a quicker option is to log out with windows key+L and then log in again.  Lights go out.  and I am back in business.

I've come across the same problem, but I noticed that if I let the red lights blink for about 5 mins it will eventually turn off. I.e. just leave the lights alone and they will turn off on their own.
