HP Spectre x360 - 15-df0322ng
Microsoft Windows 11

On the display, I see automatic cursor movements always in the same place. What could it be? I reset the laptop to factory settings without improvement. The cursor symbol jumps irregularly between the middle and the taskbar, but always at the same distance from the side edge of the display. It doesn't matter how far the display is opened.

Hi @Demokrit

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for describing the issue so clearly—and I’m really sorry your HP Spectre x360 is experiencing this strange cursor behavior. Since you’ve already done a factory reset, we can rule out most software conflicts.

The fact that the cursor jumps between fixed points suggests a hardware-related trigger, possibly tied to the touchscreen or touchpad.

Here’s what might be going on and how to troubleshoot it:

🧠 Likely Causes of Automatic Cursor Movement

Touchscreen Interference
A faulty digitizer or ghost touch input can cause the cursor to jump erratically. This is common in convertible laptops like the Spectre x360.

Touchpad or Pen Driver Glitch
Some HP Spectre models have reported issues with the HD-Compliant Pen driver causing cursor freakouts.

Electromagnetic Interference or Pressure Points
If the cursor always jumps to the same location, it could be reacting to a physical pressure point on the screen or chassis.

🛠️ Steps to Try

Disable the HD-Compliant Pen Driver

  • Press Win + X > Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Right-click HD-Compliant Pen > Disable device.
  • Restart and observe if the cursor behavior improves.

Turn Off Touchscreen Temporarily

  • In Device Manager, find HID-compliant touch screen under Human Interface Devices.
  • Right-click > Disable device.
  • This helps isolate whether the touchscreen is causing ghost inputs.

Update or Reinstall Graphics and Input Drivers

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart and press Esc, then F2 to launch diagnostics.
  • Run tests for Touchscreen, Touchpad, and Graphics to check for hardware faults.

Check for Physical Pressure or Screen Damage

  • Gently press around the screen edges and observe if the cursor reacts.
  • If the issue worsens with pressure, the digitizer may be misfiring.
