BIOS Not Displaying On External Monitor Even After Disconnecting Ribbon Cable

HP Recommended
HP Pavilion G6 Red
Ubuntu LTS

Hi I own a 2009 hp pavilion g6 the display broke recently and I have tried to use it, but when I unplugged the cable for the internal laptop display and plugged it into an external monitor using VGA it would not display anything until I booted into Ubuntu this isn't an issue usually but as I would like to use it as a desktop and install other operating systems on to it as sort of a test bench, its not very easy to do when not all os setups support drivers for the external display also I cannot see the device I'm booting from seen as there is no bios, I'm wondering if I need to press a key combo on boot to enable bios to be seen on the external display, would you like me to attach a video of my issue?

My Specs:

Model: HP Pavilion G6

CPU: I3-540 1st gen

RAM: 3GB DDR3

HDD: 256GB HDD

OS: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

Thanks,

LiquidInteract

I'm sorry, but HP does not provide support for Linux distros -- including boot issues.

IF you replace the preloaded Windows OS with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.

Modern PCs with UEFI, instead of the older BIOS, are especially difficult to install because you have to go into the UEFI settings and make several changes before you can even boot from a USB stick -- and we are unable to assist in that work.

Your best bet for support now is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.

Since you are using Ubuntu, go here: https://ubuntuforums.org/

Good Luck

Sorry, this is not a ubuntu specific issue, this issue is to do with the bios not displaying on an external monitor after removing the display ribon cable.

Thanks,

That is generally the case because the external monitor needs drivers and those don't get loaded until Windows does.
