Elitebook 850 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

can someone tell me is there a solution for this problem? Is this a serial error on the 850 g5 elitebook, or is it necessary to bring your device back to the dealer?

It's about using a touchpad and two buttons above it. So, if my finger is on the touchpad, sometimes when I click one of the top 2 buttons touchpad stops working and it will not move until I remove my finger from it and then return them again on it. The problem is repeated again after I click one of the two buttons above the touchpad. Thanks in advance for the answer. The video below shows the bug.

The two buttons will be intended for use with the pointing stick between the G, H and B keys of your keyboard.

There might be some way of configuring the buttons not to interfere with the touchpad - look in the mouse settings and touchpad settings on your system, including any option for additional settings. If not, I suspect this is by design; when you touch one of those buttons the system believes you're using the pointing stick and the touchpad touch is unintentional.

If you wish to drag using the touchpad you should be able to do this using a tap, release, touch and hold gesture (like a double tap but without releasing the second tap until you've completed your intended drag).

Yes I know the purpose of those two buttons but I use them together with the touchpad for the very long time. New tuochpads which don't have separated buttons is not recommended to use in critical apps because they are not precise and touchpad can "think" sometimes that the finger which is on the buttons is the finger which moves and then he goes around as he wont. Imagine that you use this kind of touchpad on the computer which have some critical apps like in nuclear powerplant 😄 Nevermind, I'm using pointing stick buttons with the touchpad for the last 10 years. On this laptop problem are the drivers and I manage to adjust that work with default mouse drivers from 2006. I hope that HP will fix this since it's a bug in drivers.

You say it's a bug, I say it is most likely a feature to prevent unintended touchpad input. I will note that it appears to be deliberate behaviour and code working as designed is not a bug. Beyond that, I suggest it is best we agree to differ.

If you have been able to do what you want using Windows' default drivers, that's good news. It might be worth checking if you can turn this feature off in the HP supplied drivers, but if you are happy to forego any enhancements they offer, stick with the drivers you are using.

Prevent after 5 -10 click, random? You  call that prevent? I use 6-7 different Laptops and on every other model ewrything is ok, but only on this HP I have this bug. If it protection then it wouldn't be possible use it right away and not after 5-10 clicks. This is clear bug in drivers. My opinion 🙂

On some computers, a "double-tap" on the top-left corner of the touchpad will "disable" the touchpad.  Possible ???
