HP G56 Notebook pc
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

hello,

am having the following problems with my HP G56 Notebook pc running Windows 8.1

i bought a new laptop and i immediately installed windows 8.1 on it, as i used it, have been experiencing the following problems

1: Battery can not charge up to 100%.

have tried to use the bios but the bios does not have the battery delay status, have tried most of the solutions like calibrating and defaulting the bios settings and most of the solutions have found like uninstalling and reinstalling the acpi compliant and disabling and enabling the ac adapter in the device manager but nothing is happening.

Otherwise it can charge to upto 60% and indicates that "plugged in but not charging"

2: Brightness can't be adjusted.

My brightness is always high, have tried to use the mobility center to adjust it, the slider is moving but the brightness is still the same and nothing is happening when i press f2 or f3 and combination of fn and f2 or f3.

have also tried to disable/uninstall and enable/reinstall the display adapters and the only adapter under display adapters is the microsoft basic display adapter nothing is happening. and when i try to install intel graphics adapter (supporting 64 bit windows 8.1) they can't be installed and giving me back the response that "the system does not meet the minimum requirement".

have tried to use windows recovery system for the above issues but nothing is happening

Welcome to HP Community!

here's what I recommend (perform steps exactly as prescribed to resolve the issue)

Let's perform a power reset as per HP standards:

  • Ensure your laptop is OFF.
  • Unplug all the external devices (If any).
  • Disconnect the power charger from the computer, and remove the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds.
  • Connect the power supply (power adapter).
  • Press the power button to turn on your laptop.
  • Then put your battery back.
  • for more details: Click here

Once the above steps are done, try the below:

  • Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
  • Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
  • Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
  • Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

As for the brightness issue, try the below steps:

1) Search for Device Manager in Start Menu
2) Expand the Monitors section
3) Right click on Generic PnP Monitor and
4) Click on Enable and you are good!

The brightness started working after installing windows 7.

The battery issue still remains unsolved, it keeps dropping the maximum charge percentage.
