Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My battery icon has been missing from my taskbar for a while (not entirely sure how long, but it's been a long time). Today I tried to follow the instructions to turn it on (select which icons appear on the taskbar), and where it says battery, it is displaying the volume icon instead. I've turned it off and back on, and nothing has changed. Not really sure what to do to get my battery icon back.missing battery icon.PNG

Welcome to HP Support Community

Is the Notebook working on Battery Power without the AC Adapter?

I suggest you try a System Restore to an earlier time before the issue started

- Select the Start button, type control panel and then choose it from the list of results.
- Search Control Panel for Recovery.
- Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
- Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

You can also create a New User Account and check incase it's an issue with your current Account

    • Select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Accounts  and then select Family & other users. (In some editions of Windows you'll see Other users.)

    • Select Add someone else to this PC

    • Select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information, and on the next page, select Add a user without a Microsoft account.
    • Enter a user name, password, password hint or choose security questions, and then select Next.

      • Under Settings  > Accounts  > Family & other users, select the account owner name, then select Change account type.

      • Under Account type, select Administrator and OK.

      • Sign in with the new administrator account.

I've had a few problems with the battery and the sound icons disappearing.  Grrr.  But try this as it fixed it for me:

(I'm using HP Pavilion D6 on Windows 7 but it if you can access task manager you should be right!)

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to open your Task Manager

Click Processes TAB

Highlight "explorer.exe" in the list

All your desktop icons will disappear but don't panic - all you've done is turned off explorer.

Go to the top menu and click on FILE and NEW TASK(run)

type in "start systray.exe"

click okay

(If you get an error saying cannot find start, then just remove the word "start" and type "systray.exe" instead)

This should reset your systems tray where all your cute little icons live.

Go to FILE and NEW TASK(run) again and this time restart your explorer by typing:

"start explorer.exe"   (or just explorer.exe if you get that annoying "can't find start" error message again)

Click Ok

and now voila!  Everything including your volume and battery icons should be back on your task bar!

If it doesn't work try the other steps he suggests on that site.
