Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have purchased 3 different batteries for my laptop and it says no battery installed on each of them. Therefore it fails battery test. I have had to remove the battery and leave it plugged in to use it.

I have removed the touchpad connector and installed a wireless mouse that works perfectly. The touchpad will work fine as long as it is only surface touched. as soon as it is press clicked it goes off into random directions and opens apps or closes apps all the while moving around the screen. Shutting the laptop off sometimes stops it until I click the pad again.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (Refer to the removable and sealed battery)
BIOS default:(do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and    Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

If the issue persists, follow the next steps.

  • 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
  • 2. Expand batteries.
  • 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
  • 4. Shut down the computer.
  • 5. Disconnect the charger.
  • 6. Remove the battery.
  • 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
  • 8. Insert the battery only.
  • 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

I've done that. Each step as written has been performed and in the proper order. I've replaced the bios also. I went through 3 pages of videos on youtube and performed all the suggestions that differed from others, all with no luck. I've basically decided that when the original battery went bad, it was bulged out, it took something with it that is causing me the problem now. I bought 2 batteries from different companies on eBay and one on Amazon.

HP evidently doesn't have a replacement touchpad on a 2 year old laptop as I can't find it on the HP website.  I purchase a higher end laptop from HP that is now nearly just a paperweight as it is stuck on my desk. Sad, sad sad.

Thanks for trying to help,

Bill

Thanks,

I'll check into taking it to a repair facility in PA when I get to my new house in WV when I get my desktop back from the movers.
