Hi @RL8822CE
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
You're being incredibly observant, and that attention to detail is a great asset when troubleshooting!
A battery stuck at 99% can be caused by several factors, including battery calibration settings, power management features, or even firmware limitations. Here are some steps to help resolve this:
Check Battery Calibration Settings
- Some laptops have a battery charge limit setting in BIOS or power management software.
- Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing F2, F10, or DEL during startup).
- Look for battery-related settings and disable any charge limit options.
Manually Calibrate the Battery
- Fully charge your laptop to 99%, then unplug it and let it drain completely until it shuts down.
- Leave it off for a few hours, then charge it back to 100% without interruption.
- This process helps recalibrate the battery’s charge detection.
Run HP Battery Diagnostics
- Open HP Support Assistant and navigate to Battery Check.
- If you don’t have HP Support Assistant, you can download it from HP’s official site.
- Run the diagnostic tool to check battery health and calibration.
Update BIOS & Battery Drivers
- Visit HP’s support page and check for BIOS updates for your laptop model.
- Install any available updates and restart your laptop.
- Also, update the battery drivers via Device Manager → Batteries → Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Shut down your laptop and disconnect the power adapter.
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Reconnect the adapter and turn on the laptop.
