I see another HP laptop owner posted a similar issue. In fact, their bezel crack is in the same location as mine.

In my case, the crack appeared after less than 3 months usage.  No droppage.  Casing is pristine except for this one issue.

Unit is currently at HP service center awaiting my approval or rejection of a $400 repair (I will reject). Without providing evidence they classified it as consumer induced damage but I am working with an escalations manager and trying to push back.

UPDATE:

Multiple requests for evidence of consumer induced damage (CID) went unanswered.  My escalations manager, though in contact with the service center, was unable to provide exactly how service technicians  arrived at their assessment.

After 2-weeks I needed the laptop shipped back and opted for no repair despite being offered a discount. Note the standard warranty covers faults in materials and craftsmanship. In my case, I believe the warranty was not honored and CID is the service center's default response unless an enhanced warranty was purchased.
