I bought HP laptop recently it's processor is i5 13th generation with 16gb ram and 512ssd but I'm not happy with the graphics display given that it is intel iris X the bit depth color is just 6 bit but it should be 8 bit. What will I do?

Hi @Jess336,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your new HP laptop's display is set to a 6-bit color depth instead of 8-bit, which can affect the color quality and make the visuals appear less vibrant.
Here are steps you can take to check and potentially fix this issue.
Check Display Settings:
- Right-click on your desktop and select Display settings.
- Scroll down and click on Advanced display settings.
- Under the Bit depth section, check if it’s set to 6-bit. You might have an option to change it to 8-bit from here, but if not, proceed with the next steps.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager by typing it in the Windows search bar.
- Expand the Display adapters section and right-click on Intel Iris Xe.
- Select Update driver and choose to search automatically for updates. If this doesn't fix it, you can also try manually updating it by downloading the latest driver from the Intel website or your laptop manufacturer’s website.
Change Graphics Settings in Intel Graphics Command Center:
- Download and open Intel Graphics Command Center from the Microsoft Store if you don’t have it installed.
- Under Display, check the Color Settings and adjust the bit depth if available. Look for options like 8-bit (True Color).
Ensure You’re Using the Right Display Profile:
- Go to Display Settings → Advanced display settings → Color Management.
- In the Devices tab, ensure the proper color profile is selected for your monitor. You can try installing a new ICC profile for better color accuracy if needed.
Check External Monitors (if applicable):
If you're using an external monitor, ensure it supports 8-bit color and is connected via a cable that supports higher bit-depth (e.g., DisplayPort or HDMI 2.0).

BIOS/Graphics Mode Settings:
Some laptops have display or graphics settings in the BIOS/UEFI. You could check if there’s an option to adjust color depth or related display settings in the BIOS. Be cautious with this step as settings here can vary between systems.
Consider Display Quality:
If the steps above don’t resolve the issue, the display panel on the laptop might physically support only 6-bit color. This limitation is possible on some budget or mid-range laptop displays, even if the graphics chip itself can support 8-bit.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
