OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck2000 (70X02AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hey everyone, hoping someone can help, if possible. I've been having sporadic issues with my Omen laptop whereby occasionally, and happening a lot more frequently recently, my screen will go black but will have multiple versions of my Taskbar throughout the screen. I've all Windows updates, BIOS up to date, ran all hardware diagnostics on the laptop and everything showing as good. I've reset the laptop (disconnect charger and hold Power for 15 seconds, then boot with charger connected).

The issue seems to be happening more and more frequently and when the issue happens it either goes away itself after a few seconds or stays indefinitely unless I hit the Windows key.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

I have the same issue, and I have reinstalled windows 3 times now trying to fix it with HP support on the phone and it has only gotten worse. My computer will also have the taskbar number change, and they jump up and down the screen. I also have the bottom half the screen go black and the top half duplicated at the bottom. I have had the tabs on top of my edge browser do the same thing as the taskbar. It originally was only when the battery was below 30% but now it happens randomly.

Any help will be greatly appreciated as I have already spent many hours trying to fix this and on the phone with HP support. If I am able to fix my computer, I will let you know how I did it.

@drunkendwarf, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Clean Reinstall Graphics Drivers:

Uninstall the graphic drivers completely

Reinstall the latest drivers from HP Support website

Disable Hardware Acceleration:

In browsers, Omen Gaming Hub, etc.

Set apps in Settings > Display > Graphics to "High performance."

Lower Refresh Rate:

Go to Settings > Display > Advanced Display > set to 60 Hz.

Turn Off Fast Startup:

Control Panel > Power Options > Disable "Turn on fast startup."

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Garp,

Thanks for responding to my query. I’ve tried re-installing my graphics drivers, but unfortunately, the issue persists. I'm hesitant to implement the changes you suggested, particularly limiting my refresh rate to 60Hz and consistently using the high-performance mode. High performance drains the battery quickly, and I don’t always need my laptop running at that level.

I bought this laptop to meet a wide range of needs—gaming, running multiple virtual machines, or simply browsing the web—so applying these restrictions to resolve the problem feels like a significant limitation.

For clarity, I did test setting my performance to high globally, and it does seem to resolve the issue. However, I’d rather not rely on high performance mode all the time just to avoid the screen going black and displaying multiple taskbars.

Could you please suggest alternative solutions or advise whether it’s possible to send this laptop back to HP for further investigation? If needed, I'd be open to a replacement. I truly enjoy using this laptop, but this issue is becoming increasingly frustrating.

Cheers,

Hey, what laptop do you have? Wondering if it's same as mine and some consistent fault with a piece of hardware.

Similarly, if I get the issue resolved I'll let you know what was done to fix it as I know how frustrating it is!

Cheers!
