Chrome OS

I have a black horizontal line on my touchscreen. Can this be repaired or does this screen be replaced?

Hi @BubblesC,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A black horizontal line on your HP Chromebook's touchscreen could be due to several issues, such as a hardware defect, screen damage, or a loose connection. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue.

  • Restart the Chromebook: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix display glitches.
  • Check for Software Updates: Ensure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS. Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: Power off the Chromebook, then press and hold the Refresh button (usually located where the F3 key would be) and tap the Power button. Release both buttons when the Chromebook starts up.
  • Inspect for Physical Damage: Look for any visible damage to the screen or cracks that could be causing the issue.
  • External Display Test: Connect your Chromebook to an external monitor. If the line doesn't appear on the external display, the issue is likely with the Chromebook's touchscreen or internal components.
  • Check Connections: If you're comfortable opening up the Chromebook (and it's no longer under warranty), you can check if the internal cable connecting the touchscreen to the motherboard is loose or damaged.

If none of these steps resolves the issue, the problem is likely with the touchscreen itself or internal components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
