HP Spectre x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-eu0000 (7K633AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

When using my 2 in 1 laptop in tablet mode and taking notes with a pen, I have a black rectangle appear in the middle of my screen. Right before this happens all touch inputs stop and the whole display flickers and resets any display settings like brightness, hdr, and night light. A quick restart fixes the issue but is very annoying and disruptive. The dead spot still works for touch input and so far I've only had this happen while using OneNote.

Hi @Bryce213,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a software or driver issue that's causing the display to flicker and reset during your note-taking sessions in tablet mode on your HP Spectre X360. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Update Drivers: Ensure that all your drivers, especially those related to the display and touch input, are up-to-date. You can do this through the Device Manager on Windows or through HP's support website.
  • Update Software: Make sure your operating system and any relevant software, such as OneNote, are also up-to-date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause compatibility issues.
  • Disable and Re-enable Touchscreen Drivers: You can try disabling and then re-enabling the touchscreen drivers in Device Manager. This can sometimes reset the touch functionality and resolve issues.
  • Check for Malware: Run a malware scan on your system to ensure that malicious software isn't causing the problem.
  • Check for Hardware Issues: If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it's possible there may be a hardware problem with your laptop's touchscreen or display.
  • Alternative Note-taking Apps: While you troubleshoot the issue, you could try using alternative note-taking apps to see if the problem persists across different software. This can help determine if the issue is specific to OneNote or if it's a broader issue with your laptop.
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you could try performing a factory reset on your laptop to restore it to its original settings. Be sure to back up any important data before doing this, as it will erase all files and applications from your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
