Hi @D1bo
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're seeing a black screen with only a loading cursor on your HP laptop (or any Windows laptop), it can be caused by a number of issues, such as driver problems, corrupted system files, or even hardware issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve this problem:
Step 1: Force a Restart
Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary issues.
- Hold down the power button for about 10-15 seconds to force the laptop to turn off.
- Wait for 10-15 seconds and then turn the laptop back on.
- See if the laptop boots up normally or if the black screen persists.
Step 2: Try Safe Mode
If the issue persists and you're unable to get to the desktop, you can try booting into Safe Mode. Safe Mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services, which can help diagnose and fix problems.
How to Enter Safe Mode:
- Turn off your laptop completely.
- Turn it back on and as soon as you see the HP logo, press the F8 key (or the Shift + F8 combination). If F8 doesn't work, you may need to try the following alternative:
- Turn the laptop on and immediately turn it off when you see the Windows loading screen. Repeat this 3 times, and Windows should boot into the Recovery Mode on the 4th attempt.
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings.
- Click Restart.
- After the restart, select Enable Safe Mode from the list (use the arrow keys to select it).
- Once you're in Safe Mode, check if the black screen issue persists. If you can get into Safe Mode, there might be an issue with drivers, updates, or some software causing the issue.
Step 3: Use System Restore
If you can get into Safe Mode, try performing a System Restore to roll back the system to a point when it was working fine.
- Type System Restore in the Search box and select Create a restore point.
- In the System Properties window, click on the System Restore button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and choose a restore point from before the issue started.
I hope this helps.
