@Thembelihle, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your HP notebook. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect the AC adapter and remove any discs or memory cards.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the laptop.
Check Display Brightness:
- Sometimes the display brightness might be turned all the way down. Try adjusting it using the keyboard's brightness keys (usually marked with a sun icon).
External Monitor Test:
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV. If the external monitor works, the issue is likely with the laptop’s screen.
Re-seat the RAM:
- Loose RAM can cause a black screen. If you're comfortable doing so, power off the laptop, open the back panel, and re-seat the RAM sticks.
BIOS Recovery:
- Disconnect all devices from your laptop.
- Press and hold the Windows + B keys together, then press the power button while holding the keys. Keep holding the keys until you hear beeping or the BIOS recovery screen appears.
