It seems we have encounteref the same problems with our notebooks. There are few solutions to our problem: 1) let the notebook overheat by wrapping the vents with a towel. It'll automatically turn off and when it has cooled down signigicantly, turn the notebook on again and and your monitor would light up again. This is a quick and temporary fix. 2) pull out the system board and put soldering flux on the graphics card and subject it to heat (until the flux boils). They call this process reflow. Again these are temporary fixes which hp, in my opinion, would not recommend. Theses fixes subjects the system board and its parts to extreme heat and may destroy these parts eventually.
Ultimately you'll end up contemplating on replacing the whole system board as the graphics card is not upgradeable and they are rarely offered in the narket. You could try and get one from a donor board and with luck could solve your problem.

hi SDF15!
It's me again with the same old problem. I visited the hp parts store page and enquired on the part that i needed but the search listed this part as "not available or inorderable" in the hp parts store. i then visited the hpe page which the hp parts store recommended but got lost there.
would you possibly have any idea on where i can get the item i need? as of now, i'm getting by with my laptop by letting it over heat and cool down substantially before booting it up again. it takes about half an hour to an hour before i can use this laptop.
if i can get hold of the schematics of the system board, maybe i can find out what the real problem is. the graphics card doesn't seem to have any problem after being heated up. i brought the system board to a repair shop for a reflow of the graphics card but the problem persisted. it could be a busted capacitor. busted capacitors sometimes work when subjected to extreme heat (like, overheating) but, you can't do that every time you need to use the laptop. it could damage other parts as well.

If you are unable to find the part in the HP Part Store, or Part Surfer, then you can try searching the spare part number on Google, to see if you get any results from that. It is possible that you may find a 3rd party vender through that. I hope this helps.
