I have purchased a stream laptop ultra light.

A few minutes ago, the screen went blank and thr Cap Lock button is flashing 5 times slowly followed by 3 quick Flashes. This sequence is constantly repeating.

Hi @Dawnika,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

The blinking pattern you're describing on your HP Stream laptop—5 slow blinks followed by 3 quick blinks—is an error code that typically indicates a hardware issue. This specific pattern is part of HP's BIOS diagnostic codes, which can help identify the nature of the problem.

Here’s what the 5 slow blinks followed by 3 quick blinks code generally signifies:

BIOS POST Error Code: 5 Beeps (Slow) + 3 Beeps (Quick)

This code often indicates a System Board or BIOS issue. The exact meaning can vary slightly based on the laptop model and its BIOS version, but it usually points to a problem with the motherboard or the BIOS firmware.

Steps to Troubleshoot and Resolve:

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Power off the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect all external devices and unplug the power adapter.
  • If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter (and battery, if applicable).
  • Power on the laptop and check if the issue persists.

Check for Loose Internal Connections If you're comfortable opening your laptop (and it’s not under warranty, which could be voided by opening it), check for any loose or disconnected internal cables:

  • Power off the laptop and unplug it.
  • Open the laptop carefully (following the manufacturer’s guidelines) and check connections to the motherboard, display, and other components.

Reset BIOS/UEFI If you can access the BIOS/UEFI settings:

  • Power on the laptop and immediately press Esc or F10 to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • Look for an option to reset the BIOS settings to default or optimized defaults. Apply the changes and restart the laptop.

Check for BIOS Update

  • If you can access the BIOS, check if there is an option to update it. Visit the HP support website for your specific model and download the latest BIOS update if available. Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or if you cannot access BIOS settings due to the code, you should contact HP phone Support or the store you purchased for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
