Pavilion DV7 3030 EW
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I have a problem and would appreciate any help.

I recently updated my HP DV7 3030EW , Windows 10 64-bit and upon completion of upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 suddenly  neither of my shift keys are working.

I have plugged in an external keyboard and the functions work fine as does it using the virtual keyboard.

Caps lock works fine but it does not allow me to use the uppercase special symbols such those using shift+1 through = and the others. But that is normal I believe, as the caps lock does not allow me to use special characters using virtual keyboard either.

I have tried the various suggestions made by others in posts/replis, such as trying an external keyboard, turning off 'sticky keys' , changing region and language settings, uninstalling all keyboard drivers restarting and reinstalling new ones.

I have even fully upgraded Windows 10 and reset the BIOS to default status.

Now I am completely stuck as where to go further. Please advise.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely

Joe

Hi JoeGorz,

Sorry to hear about your issue.

Have you tried connecting this keyboard to some other machine?

My advice is connect your existing keyboard to some other system and try using a Shift Key.

Also, you can disconnect and connect your keyboard cable back to its port to assure the perfect connectivity of it.

One more thing which you can do is – Press Shift command and restart your system. This will let you know whether your Shift key will work or not.

If any of the above doesn’t work and your keyboard is in Warranty, then go to the hp website and drop an email for a replacement.

If it is not under warranty, then you have to try a new keyboard.

Also, somewhere I have read that this issue can be also caused due to the malware, so you have to be sure to perform a full system scan.

Kindly acknowledge about the result of above solution.

Good Luck!

Dear WillianS

thank for your time and advice. Sadly the proble persist and it is not under warranty. One of your ideas was to connect it to another computer, which would be difficult as it is a laptop and would involve disassembling the device. If you get any other ideas please do share. Meanwhile I have to deal with using a virtual system keyboard for everything from the AT symbol to a semicolon. Again, thanks for your time and advice.

Sincerely Yours
