Elitebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The laptop is an employer-provided Elitebook with touch screen and pen capabilities and built in Privacy screen. Myself and some other employees have run into an issue where we were originally able to turn on the Privacy screen and it worked normally. In all cases, we accidentally hit some keys (unknown which keys but believed to be fn+P) causing the Privacy screen to turn on at the lowest brightness. Now, when we try to use the Privacy screen, the screen dims to the darkest setting (screen is darker than 0% brightness in regular mode) and the Privacy screen doesn't work. Conclusion: when turning on the Privacy screen, the computer is adjusted to a lower brightness than the lowest in regular mode and their is no privacy in place (at all angles the screen can be seen clearly).

Brightness cannot be adjusted using hot keys or going into display settings. Company tech services is unable to fix the problem but I do not believe they know how because they aren't experts on the computer itself. This becomes an issue when we work on confidential items in public because we aren't able to see the screen with Privacy on due to the display being too dark and there's no privacy in place.

Is there a way to fix this? Be aware limitations such as not being able to have an outside company log into the computer or being able to download certain items without company permissions.

Please use the following key combinations to adjust the HP Sure View privacy screen settings:

  • fn+f2: Turns on the privacy screen.
  • fn+f5 or fn+f6: Adjusts the privacy screen for well-lit or darker environments.
  • fn+f2: Turns off the privacy screen.
  • fn+p: Turns on HP Sure View with the highest privacy setting.

Thank you for your advice but hot keys do not work in this situation. Neither does changing display settings. In addition, my f5 and f6 keys adjust audio while my f3 and f4 keys adjusts display (which did not work). I am aware of all hot keys involved in using the privacy screen and adjusting the privacy screen brightness and they do not work as they are supposed to. fn+f2 turns on but it's not a privacy screen (it goes to the dark screen that isn't private). fn+P does the same thing as fn+f2. fn+f3 and fn+f4 which are supposed to adjust brightness don't do anything and fn+f5 and fn+f6 which controls audio only effects audio.

Hi,

Im experience the same issue. HP x360 1030G3.

Privacy screenshot is so dark it’s impossible to use, and I can’t change the brightness.

please advice.

none of the fun+f3-4 for brightness has any effect when privacy is active.

I am having the same issue and none of the posted steps actually do anything to resolve the issue.  This is very frustrating as I require the privacy screen to work in open areas due to the confidential nature of my work.

Can you please provide other options as what you've shared does not work to brighten the privacy screen. Mine is too dark to work with it on.

Hi. My case was resolved when I reinstalled the hp hotkeys software. Now the brightness buttons work when privacy mode is active, and the screen is usable again:)
