@pat0001, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Device Manager for Problem Driver

Open Device Manager → Expand Display adapters → Right-click the one with the ⚠️ exclamation mark and choose:

Properties → Check the error code (likely Code 43 or Code 31).

Then select Uninstall device.

Check the box to delete the driver if asked.

Restart your PC.

Enable Microsoft Basic Display (if needed)

If that doesn’t work or installation fails, temporarily use the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter:

Device Manager → Update driver → Let me pick from list → Choose Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

This should give you brightness control, but limited performance.

Restore Brightness Functionality

Once the correct driver is installed:

Try Fn + Brightness Keys again.

Or go to Settings → System → Display → Adjust brightness slider.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
