Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello, I would be very grateful for your advice re. a frustrating issue I am experiencing.

I have an HP Pavilion laptop. The screen is broken but I have an external HP monitor connected to it by an HDMI cable. I have the laptop on a setting so that when the laptop is closed it continues to function and doesn't go into standby mode. This was so I could have it closed and on my

shelf while using the monitor, before the screen broke.

When the screen broke the laptop was on and I was logged into Windows. I then immediately plugged in the monitor HDMI cable and it transitioned to the screen quite seamlessly. I did not turn off the laptop for days and kept it charged, because I was worried that if if it switched off, it wouldn't automatically detect the display when I turned it back on on.

Well, this is exactly what has happened now. (In the end I turned off my laptop as I thought keeping it on forever was unsustainable.)

I now cannot get it to detect the monitor. The monitor does not detect any input. And I don't know how to make the laptop switch to external monitor. Pressing FN F4 doesn't seem to do anything. I also can't figure out how to log in without seeing the screen.

Thank you for any advice you can offer.

I understand your HP notebook screen is damaged and it's not working on an external monitor, to fix this issue your computer needs to be repaired.
