@Donna2601, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It can be quite frustrating when your built-in camera suddenly stops working after functioning well for a long time. Since you've already tried the basics like enabling/disabling and reinstalling, let's dig deeper into some less obvious causes. Here’s a checklist to help you troubleshoot the issue:
Confirm if the Camera is Detected
- Open Device Manager (press Win + X and select Device Manager).
- Expand Cameras or Imaging Devices.
- Do you see "HP TrueVision 5MP Camera"?
- If yes: Check for a yellow triangle or error icon.
- If no: The camera might be disabled in BIOS/UEFI or there could be a hardware failure.
- Do you see "HP TrueVision 5MP Camera"?
Check Hidden Devices
- In Device Manager, click View → Show Hidden Devices.
- Look for the camera; if it appears faded, right-click it and select Uninstall, then reboot your computer.
BIOS/UEFI Camera Setting
- Restart your PC and enter BIOS (usually by pressing Esc, F10, or F2 immediately upon startup).
- Look for an option like "Camera," "Integrated Camera," or "Imaging Device" and ensure it is Enabled.
- Some HP Envy models allow disabling the camera at the BIOS level for security reasons.
Check Windows Privacy Settings
- Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Camera.
- Ensure that Camera access and Let apps access your camera are both set to On.
- Scroll down to verify that specific apps (like Zoom or Teams) have permission to access the camera.
Update Drivers Manually
- In Device Manager, right-click the camera and select Properties → Driver tab.
- If not, manually install the latest HP Camera Driver:
- Visit HP Support, enter your model, and download the latest webcam driver, even if Windows indicates it's "up-to-date."
Windows Update
- Sometimes, Microsoft pushes problematic drivers. Go to Settings → Windows Update → Update History → Driver Updates.
- If a camera driver was installed recently around the time it stopped working, consider uninstalling it and rebooting.
Try the Windows Camera App
- Open the Camera app from the Start Menu.
- If it shows "We can’t find your camera" and provides an error code (like 0xA00F4244), please let me know the code, as it can give specific insights into the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
