My camera glitched for some reason, when I tried to use the camera app, the camera refuses to turn on and even if it did, it will turn off immediately. I tried using zoom and it able to keep the camera turn on, but the footage is a glitchy mess. It was not like this a few weeks ago, is it a hardware problem?

Hi @Mokotan

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

It sounds like your built‑in camera is failing to initialize properly, and the glitchy feed you’re seeing in Zoom suggests the hardware is struggling to maintain a stable signal. This can be either a driver/software conflict. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Uninstall and Reinstall Camera Drivers

  • In Device Manager, right-click on the camera device under Imaging devices (or similar), and select Uninstall device.
  • Confirm the action and restart your laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the drivers automatically.

Run the Camera Test in HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Select Component Tests.
  • Look for Camera, Webcam, or Video Devices (availability varies by model).

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello, thank you for answering my help. Unfortunately, the instructions  you gave me didn't work. However, I found something interesting, the glitch only happen if I open the laptop lid too far. I guess It is a hardware issue rather than driver/software one

Hi @Mokotan

Thank you for responding.

This seems like a hardware issue and it will need a repair, I would request you to contact the nearest service center for assistance, if the device is out of warranty, it may incur charges: https://support.hp.com/in-en/help/service-center
