Sometimes when i get a windows update my the built in display on my computer stops working and is blank but the machine is running because if i connect an external disaplay the conputer is functional. This started happening with with a windows update and i wold roll back to a restore point and it would fix the problem. I tried suppressing windows updates but I can not get it to stop and my restore points could not keep up. So every timwe microsoft updates my machine it is a crap shoot as to whether or not the display will work. When this happens the screen brightness setting not only stops working but the slider bar does not even show up in the control panel. It is driving me nuts so any helkp would be appreciated.

@mshockey17 Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that After windows update the display is not working.
In that case, I would suggest you roll back the previous version.
Note: After rollback does not update the windows until the fixes are released.
Please refer to the below link to roll back the windows update.

If the issue still persists, Please update the Graphics drivers and BIOS.
let me know how that pans out,
And the answer to the above question will help me, help you!

Thanks for the reply. Every time this happens (about 7 or 😎 I roll back the windows version which typically works but eventually no valid restore points are there and it stops working until several windows updates later which might be 6 months. I have of course tried updating the video drivers but it tells me that they are up to date. Any other suggestions? Because it works with the external monitor and it coincides with the software update I would conclude that it is not a hardware issue. Thanks

@mshockey17 I suggest you create a new user account and check if that helps,
If it doesn't you may want to backup all personal data into an external storage device and reset windows using the steps mentioned here to resolve the issue.
