HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-f2000 IDS Base Model

Used MyHP to get to support page to download the latest drivers and firmware updates. During the updates, ELAN Firmware was applied. I saw the application terminal start and immediately close with no errors. I did not give it much thought until later my PEN and TOUCHSCREEN stopped working. I performed all the recovery steps including resetting and reinstalling the Win11. Though, the DEVICE MANAGER would not show a PEN or TOUCHSCREEN in the HID section after I uninstalled them. This hinted that the the devices were not being initialized or discovered by Win 11. Secondly, when I went to BIOS diagnostics, I noticed that touch screen tests were also missing.

I inspected the installer package - C:\SWSetup\SP138532. The log only showed messages about device discoveries though no messages of firmware update failures. I inspected the MultiDevSetting.ini file and noticed an odd heading - [IAPDEF-1] V. This V was odd because it was outside the [].

I ran the Console_IAP\ForceUpdate and the PEN was discovered after the update completed with success and the machine was rebooted. This further confirmed a failed firmware update.

Finally, I removed the extra V and spaces in front of the suspicious title entry and re-ran the update executable. This time, it ran and completed the multiple device updates successfully. After reboot, PEN and TOUCHSCREEN are both working.

Please be aware and don't use the update package or at least use it with caution because it caused a firmware update failure and my touchscreen and pen on a new laptop stopped working.
