The computer does not recognize the camera. It does not recognize it in Teams or inside the computer. The screen goes black, with a camera symbol.

Hi @Stephferro,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing the issue—let’s troubleshoot this step by step. The black screen with a camera symbol usually indicates that the camera is either not detected or is being blocked. Here are some steps you can try

1. Check Physical Camera Privacy Shutter

Some HP laptops have a physical shutter or switch to block the webcam for privacy. Look for a small slider near the webcam and make sure it’s open.

2. Check the Camera in Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Imaging DevicesCameras, or Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Look for your camera (e.g., "HP TrueVision HD Camera").
    • If it’s not listed, it may be disabled or not detected.
    • If it’s listed with a yellow warning icon, right-click and choose Update driver or Enable device.

3. Check Camera Privacy Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
  2. Make sure Camera access is turned on.
  3. Ensure Microsoft Teams and other apps have permission to use the camera.

 4. Restart Windows Camera Services

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Find Windows Camera Frame Server and Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  3. Right-click each and choose Restart.

5. Test Camera in Camera App

  1. Open the Camera app from the Start menu.
  2. If it shows a black screen or error, the issue is likely hardware or driver-related.

6. Reinstall Camera Driver

  1. In Device Manager, right-click the camera and choose Uninstall device.
  2. Restart your computer—Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
