HP Spectre x360 Laptop - 15-eb0038tx
Microsoft Windows 11

The gray camera icon keeps popping up on my screen.  I am not using the camera when this happens.  Sometimes it pops up, showing active sometimes; it has the line drawn, indicating it is off.   I have updated the drivers for my camera, bios and even upgraded the OS to Win11, but these have not helped.  I cannot pinpoint anything I am doing to activate changes to the camera to make this appear.  When it pops up, the light does not turn on at the top of the screen.

I found some similar posts on the same problems, but it seems no single solution worked

Can anyone provide a solution to this?

Hi @AndrewTeoh

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing camera icon-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

- Try reinstalling the Webcam driver from Device Manager

 - Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
- Look for a Camera or Imaging Device and expand the List
- Look for Camera driver then right-click it, and select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver: Open Device Manager, right-click the Camera driver, and select Uninstall. Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
